HI guys,
At a nursery today they had a pallet of bags of peat moss for free. I got four and when i got home i realised that they expired in august last year. Will using it to grow seed be ok? Or can i use it for somthing else. Thanks,
Hayden

What nursery is that Hayden? It should be OK. Open up a bag and have a look.

smell it and check the pH. I can't think of any other issues, but I'm forced to wonder why they'd be free

Grab the lot if you can!!! If you thinks its a bit sus put it in an icecream container and microwave it! This will kill alot of the junk that mite be hiding in it.

I got the last ones. Sorry! It feels like dry dirt and is black and has no horrible smell. Is it ok?

Nah it will be fine. As people have said it might just not be "sanatised" fungi free etc. If you are using it for something tricky/problematic like berry seeds etc, maybe heat treat it. Lay it on something in thin layer under Clear plastic or black plastic and it should get hot enough to kill most things.
IF you are not doing anything tricky just make sure you hydrate it well. Put in in a wheelbarrow add some water and come back in a day.
