Thanks...I was wondering because there is new growth at the bottom of both my spindly, named varieties but I cannot see where they are grafted. So I guess I should remeove this new growth???

Yes remove it. The grafts on feijoas are always very difficult to see as they heal so well. Be sure to remove all suckers as they will drain the energy from your graft.

If I want to take some feijoa plants overseas (nevermind customs, not a problem) how would be the best way to transport them?
It's about a 10 hour flight. With waiting time, I guess we'd be looking at 16 hours all up.
If I buy some small trees from a nursery, shake off the soil and wrap them in some damp newspaper, and put them into a large, hard-shell suitcase, would they be ready to plant on the other side?

I think the customs would freak out with the small trees in a suitcase (for a very good reason).

About the cuttings: Wrap around each of them with grafting tape. Priority is the cut end to seal as quick as possible with the tape before the air oxidises the cells and then with overlap, wrap upwards until the top of the branch. Make sure, all cuttings are dry, so you won't breed funghi, etc. between the wax tape and branch. If possible, keep away from extreme temperatures, cooler is better then warmer.
