Hi. I want to plant a Dwarf Brown fig tree. My question is that do I get sweet and decent amount of fruit if I plant the tree in a spot that gets 4 to 5 hours of direct sun? Thanks.

Hi bobDal ,
Dwarf Brown is a slow growing fig. If it only got 4-5 hours of direct sun then it will take a longer time to grow, to have fruits and fruits may not ripe properly before the cold winter starts. You need a fast growing and early season fig instead. Cheers

Thanks David. I was thinking about Black Genoa. But its invasive root system scares me. There are pipes around 2 meters from the planting spot.

Hi bobDal,
In your case I suggest you pick any figs you like to grow in the plastic pot, size around 430mm to 510mm (Bunnings) and prune it every year (in July) to keep less than 2 meters tall. You can move the plant around the yard to get more sunlight. Black Genoa is a good choice for start. With 510mm pot you can get approx. 50-100 fruits each year after 2-3 years. Cheers.

I wanted to avoid planting in pot since at times in summer we might be away for a week or two. It seems that there is not any options other Than planting in pot. Thanks for your responses David.

Hi bobDal,
Most people use the tray under the pot and water well top and bottom when they go away for 2 weeks find their plant still okay. Cheers
