Hi everyone have germinated dried baby wild fig seeds, what is the possibility they will eventually come to fruit. They were from a packet off shelf, originating some where overseas.

Hi Fruit Guy,
From my expience, nearly 50years mucking around the garden and all sorts of adventures with progating, grafting cross polinations etc, i have found that fig trees will only produce fruit true to its parent by cutting or grafing on wild root stock. I have had seedlings grow around fig trees where birds have dropped seeds and over the years i have let them grow but every time they get to fruiting stage, the actual fruit gets to a decent size, but does'nt ripen! the outside does dark, but the inside is not ripe or edible.
The best way my friend, is either buy an established tree, or get a cutting poke it in the ground, and you should have figs after a couple of years

Several fig seedlings growing here, fruit of 2 are good, 4 or 5 no good, hollow/dry,
same as nickg says, although one of these seems to set ok fruit some years.
If you grew seed of small figs from pkt, you may have a type of capri fig, which may be ok from seed.

Dried figs are Smyrna ,generally. They need fertilisation by a wasp etc. Not worth the trouble ,I think.
