I just had the pleasure of meeting the famous Jantina and her husband Geoff over lunch on their way back from Japan. What a delight to finally catch up with such an amazingly generous, knowledgable and effervescent lady, a real bonus to cross paths with another member from the forum. Now a mad dash for them to get to Daleys before it closes for the day.

I was also lucky to meet them in april. Unfortunately Jantina had to go somewhere but Geoff was kind enough to show me around their impressive garden and even generously gave me a few plants, which are going great! :)

Yes it's nice to meet members on the forum face to face. I've had the pleasure of meeting three ladies who came to pick up the Julie Tree seedlings.

Hey John Mc - bring your banana splitting tool with you when you visit. I just wasted two good blue java pups trying to seperate them from the parent plant, don't seem to be able to get at the right angle to obtain one with roots still attached ☹

Phil, I don't think you need the roots. As long as you get some of the corm it should grow.
I can see you running outside and turning the compost heap inside out looking for your blue java corms.
When you find them, cut all the top growth off and just plant the corm ball or what's left of it, or better still, send them to mwaa.

Thankyou for that lovely post Phil, the generosity has been all yours though. We had a beautiful lunch, great company and a guided tour of a lovely garden. What more could a person want?
All plants made it home safely and about half are in the ground already.
It took us quite a while to get to Daleys and it was closing time by the time we got there, but they let us in anyway (guess they didn't want to have a grown woman sitting by their gate sobbing) and I quickly swooped up and down the rows with a trolley getting treasures. Managed to get an Emma canistel Phil and very glad I did because the canistel fruit I got from FruitWorld was delicious. Never tasted one before.
If anyone gets the chance to visit another forum member I can highly recommend it. I have now visited Phil, Jason from Portland, Violet Cactus, Jujubeforsale, J,Rowen from Casterton and Peter from Adelaide as well as having email contact with a few and without exception the experiences have all been very positive and all have been very generous with knowledge and plant material or seeds.
Jason , Rowan and Nick have visited here which has been most enjoyable and anyone else who would like to visit is very welcome.
So go for it M Nash, you'll have a great time.

I worked in Grafton this morning and came back to Brisbane via Daley's then up through Kyogle Rd to Murwillumbah. What a crazy and fantastic drive!
Anyhow, passing alot of the towns I remembered a lot of forumites live there. Next time i'll have to make a little more time to visit.
Visiting Daley's is always fantastic. They have many more trees than they list on the site, so often the goodies you have been waiting for are actually waiting there for you!

I like this thread, it's fun meeting people for the first time you already sort of 'know' from internet.
adds more of a human element to it.
I met Jujubesforsale a couple of years ago, and communicated with Amanda via email etc.
It's exciting to find such enthusiastic ppl with interests in common.
There is a limit to communications via internet forum..
meeting face to face fills the gaps.
Gotta agree with you Phil@Tyalgum, it's nice country around there (and the drive over the ridge), I used to live at Pumpenbil for a while.

Just had a lovely visit from that guru of avocadoes/white sapotes/cherimoya.
He kindly grafted the Rainbow/Pike and Dade cuttings I was generously given at the Rare Fruit Society meeting on Tues (where I saw Peter from Adelaide).Thankyou Jason.
And he also pointed out TAAA DAAA that my cherimoya was covered in BUDS (I hadn't noticed) so I'm very happy.
Phil and J , Rainbow grafting material will come your way in due time.
Peter, your sapote seeds are here now and I have your address so will post them to you.

Amanda the Asian bred naranjillas are very sour and used in particular ways. There are cultivars which are more palatable and less thorny.

I only grow one for ornamental value, they are a beautiful looking shrub, with a deep purple suede covering the very large leaves. It is loaded in ripe fruit now.
Thanks to Mike, I also have a white cv as well. I don't know if it's a different cv, or just a variation of the one species, but they are visually very different.

Did you fly up to Cairns amanda? 'Cause if you drove up and didn't call in to see me, I'd be very disappointed!
We could've had bananas, bush lemons, bananas, bush lemons, mulberries, pumpkin, tomatoes, garlic,& lettuce.
Then we could have a wood-chopping competition (that's a ton of fun!:-)
See what you missed out on :-) LOL
After all that, we could've slipped down to the Leap Hotel, and had a 'counterie', and a couple of cool drinks:)
