Fruit trees in Newcastle/Lambton (forum)

Does anyone have any suggestions as to what small or dwaf fruit trees will grow well in Lambton/Newcastle?

We are building a small vege garden in our backyard and I would like to surround it with trees. They would all be on the north side of a metal shed and fence so get lots of sun all year round. Ideally I am after trees that will grow up to 2-2.5m tall and 1-1.5m wide.I already have a lemon in the front yard and a lime in a pot, but am happy to move it into the ground. All thoughts on what will work well are welcome.
Thanks

Hi Rekka,
First, try Daleys Nursery, they will know.
Or try your local nursery, they usually have the knowledge (and stock), what will grow locally.

Hello - I have a west facing backyard probably in a similar geographic location and am growing in pots cumquats, lemons, limes, oranges, peach, nectarines, apricots, quince, blueberries, grapes, mulberries and in ground passionfruits, monstereo [not sure of spelling], loganberry and pitaya [not yet fruited]. There's probably more but it's too wet to go out and remind myself. I forgot, I have a range of native fruits but only some of my lilly pillies have fruited. I plan to try apples and/or plums next. I get about one frost annually but it seems to be cold enought. Hope this helps.

Hi Rekka,
I'm not far from you actually, just down the road in New Lambton!

I'm pretty new to gardening, so what i've got growing doesn't have a long track record as yet. My current fruit trees, all in pots at the moment, but not specifically dwarf, are a Lemon/Lime ctrius splitzer (ie double graft), a valencia orange, and a secondo avocado. I also have a few herbs/veggies.

I do plan to get a mango (not sure what type), and a macadamia (probably A16 which is meant to dwarf a bit) as well as a finger lime. I'm also hoping to get some deciduous fruit trees, but these will probably go in the ground.

Feel free to check out my "My Edibles" page, or can also see how my plants are are going at Folia:

I forgot, i'm also growing a pineapple. Anyway, hope this helps, and post back with what you decide to go with, because i'd be curious to see your results seeing as though you are nearby

PS: Make sure the trees won't shade your veggie patch too much

Thanks for you feedback everyone. I bought a dwarf brown turkey fig today and can't wait to get it in the ground! I have a lime to go into the ground already and will put a Nellie Kelly Blueberry into the pot with some Azalea mix. I've a dwarf mulberry on order from Daleys (can't find them anywhere here in Newcastle) and am just trying to decide between a blood orange or a valencia. The miniature Peaches, Nectarines and Pears look good, but I'm too impatient to wait 2 years for fruit. How v exciting - must go plant
