We are a family of growers based in the Punjab region of Pakistan.
Punjab has tropical conditions and is a very hot part of Pakistan, in the summers the temperatures reach around 50degrees Celsius.
Around September condition are mild, however November onwards it starts to get quite cold. This period of cold weather will usually last up-until the end of January and thereafter it will begin to get hot again.
The rain season is usually between End of July and beginning of August.
I hope you find the information that I have given above useful when responding.
Please let me explain , We are hoping to grow our own garlic so we can supply all our surrounding villages and towns. We have around 250 acres of land to grow the garlic.
We are searching for the garlic seeds that we can plant in order to achieve this. The garlic we will require is pure white and around 5.5- 6cm.
The China seed is available in Pakistan however its difficult to buy the authentic one as a lot of people are selling other seeds claiming they are the china seeds. So you have to be really careful. We will be importing the seeds from China. We have been informed that we need around 910kg per acre. Is this correct?
With the volume of land we have how much garlic do you think we grow in tons? Can anyone you give us some useful tips to ensure we have a good harvest and avoid any problem? we have been advised that we need the following complex chemical with N, P, K 15% or so of each? How would this complex chemical be applied? Finally any other bits of information that we will find useful.
Thank-you for your time and all responses advise will be so greatly appreciated.
Regards
Naz

Hello Naz,
I believe you will find most of your answers if you look further down in the forum for the subject GARLIC. There are many ideas about planting garlic, but what concerns me is: will the lowest temperatures in Punjab be cold enough to ensure good winter conditions.

Hi,
Thanks for the information.
In the winter the Punjab are does tend to get very cold. Government agricultural stats show its the best land in Pakistan to grow the garlic.

Hi Naz, As most of us in the forum are just backyard gardeners & not agricultural experts I suggest that you contact your agriculture department in Pakistan for info such as amount of cloves to be planted per acre etc because your soil & climatic conditions may likely be very different to ours! For example Darwin in the far north doesnt get cold at any time, its tropical & wet in the summer & dry in the winter, where as we in the south have dry in the summer, & cold/ wet in the winter. Mostly very little frost except in high areas & Tasmania. This is a very large country/continent.
