Summer is almost over my vanilla cuttings have grown well. Survived Qlds wild weather and caterpillar attack. Looking forward to flowers next year.

How far south do you think they'd grow outdoors? I have seen them in the glasshouse in the Melbourne Botanic Gardens but was wondering how they'd go in the Mt Warning area, near Murwillumbah (Northern NSW).

I grow the vanilla both in green house and out side on goldcoast. Inside grow faster, but as long as they are in a sheltered position will be fine. Will not tolerate frost and slow down during winter. The vanilla should start growing again in October and put on 4 to 6 feet. Really nice orchid. Good luck

I think it would still be a showpiece in the garden.. even having handpollinated other species, I don't intend to go into production tho Mike. I like a challenge as you well know.

Good afternoon, I live in the Tweed area and have vanilla orchids growing up just about every tree and almost wild in the shadehouse...even a variegated vine. They flower sometimes twice a year, they have just finished flowering.
A good vine is certainly a showpiece and it is a fscinating plant to grow.I am not into pollinating etc. I just enjoy a challenge. Can anyone tell me if there is a PM facility on this forum?
I am very happy to share.

Hi everyone coastie is very generous and started me out on my vanilla quest. Am trying to turn vanilla into a business but will trade. Vanilla grows very well in sub tropics so good luck to all.
