Hi, my Meiwa Kumquat was delivered today and was wondering if i could use Neem oil to prevent grub infestation? i have neem oil and castile soap to mix to drench the soil.

is this OK to do or not?

Any particular grubs you are concerned about? I have never had problems with cumquat.

Neem oil and/or soap are used to treat pest problems when they occur. I think Neem oil might break down in the soil too fast to be effective as a preventative over a period of time.

Hi Julie, I dont know what type of grub this is but please take a look at the attached. i purchased a Kumquat from another nursery and was wondering why it wasnt growng. i checked the pot i had put it in and there was about 10 of these in cocoons and freely roaming about. i threw out the whole pot and mix away.

Curl grubs. It's unusual for them to go for a hard stem like cumquat - they normally eat grass roots and softer plants.

Shame you threw the pot away, Neem oil would have fixed it, or you could have repotted it into clean soil.

Just keep your eye on the new one, though if you bought it from Daleys it should be OK. There is not much you can do in the way of prevention, just keep it healthy with occasional feeding.
