Firefly starts with ...
This fruit was being sold as loquat in a local shop. That's what I thought it was until I bit into it.
This fruit's skin is like a soft rind or shell, and inedible.
The flesh is white, creamy in texture and juicy.
The flavour and smell is similar to red cherry guava.
The five fruit I've tried so far have all had two seeds inside. The seeds are quite large (like a loquat) but unlike the loquat the flesh clings to them, the colour is pale brown, and they're somewhat uneven.
What is this fruit?

Do these trees have thorns on them? I saw a plant with similar fruit on them in Alice Springs recently. The people told me that they were South American fruit trees but knew nothing else about them.

I understand that it is originally from Bolivia & is a cousin of the delicious asian mangosteen.Despite its different appearance,it does taste similar with a delicate blend of acidity & sweetness.Looking forward to the next season at the end of this year.
