how to stop a mango tree from bearing fruit (forum)

mango's starts with ...
Hi,
I have a large mango tree above my bush shack and it is a great shade tree but when the mango's fall it sounds like a shotgun hitting the roof. Is there any way of stopping it from fruiting as I would like to keep the shade.

Nope, to big to get up there and pull the flowers off if its over a shed.

Supposedly nitrogen in winter makes it shoot instead of flower, but I doubt it.

Hi Mango's in Townsville...maybe you need to solve the problem a different way? If you don't want to prune then what about netting to catch the fruit (probly plenty of trawl netting where are?) or something to "soften" the thud on the roof? bit of a hassel but you might be able to think of something that could be permanent.

Thanks for your input. I did think of the net, just need to try to get some, cheap. Will also try your method Brendan, may be a little difficult as the tree is quite tall, hard to get to a few sopts. Cheers.
