We suffer frost, wind and dry summers. Would a japoticaba survive all this?

I think so, the only thing is you have to mulch well because it has shallow root system. It will survive but may not give many fruits. I have one in Melbourne too.

Hi Ellen,

It has been in the garden unprotected since day one next to tin shed facing north. The only problem that it needs more than one tree I think. Mine is 13 years old and only give me one or two lovely fruits (lots of flowers) a year.It could be it does not have enough water due to drought or it needs two trees to improve polination.

I don't think you need two trees. They usually don't fruit well until they are well over 15 yrs.

holy smoke, 15 yrs.

I've got one from Daleys in Nov.08

So much new growths when I've got it, and thanks to the heat wave we're experiencing now, 2nd lot of new growths coming now, but the brances are so tiny (tiny tots) .

So it's a who's left last standing game, eh .
I hope I'll last longer than the tree (hehehhe)

Yes, it loves a bit of a prune, try and keep main leader branches, as it fruits best on older trunks/branches
