Lemons & Fruit fly (forum)

My fruit fly trap seems to be working on the lemons. Last year I had lost almost all by now [see pic 2], but I had no traps. This year with the baits in place, maybe a 1/2 dozen [see other pic].

As you can see I make the trap with softdrink bottles and use the waste from my home brewing which is fermented yeast and sugar.

Well worth a try guys, especially if you drink scotch, rum, etc. I have picked a 20L bucket full so far

Congratulations, Wayne. My greatest fear is of the Fruit Fly, which I have not seen yet and would rather never meet. Would any yeast work? And what does the drinking of scotch, rum etc. have to do with this?

Also, if you don't have fruit flies, would these traps ATTRACT them? I often wonder if cockroach traps attract cockroaches to your house - makes sense, doesn't it?

The drinking of the rum, scotch etc would then be the bi-product if you were to going to brew it for the bait, I prefer to call it the other way around.

I guess any yeast would do as long as it ferments with the sugar in water.

There is a product called Flavex which is a leftover from beer brewing - used as fruit fly attractant. Sounds similiar to yours Wayne.
