Hi Sue Bee

Do you mean you are looking for the berries or seeds or plants? If you want to grow them then it is easiest to buy seeds and more rewarding in my opinion to watch them hatch. Established plants are more difficult to track down from a nursery.

The Lingonberry is Vaccinium Vitis-idaea and I bought some seeds from this seller a little while back:

http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Vaccinium-Vitis-Idaea-Mountain-Cranberry-x-Fresh-Seed-/381107470439?var=&hash=item58bbc68067:m:mHWGeixCwLshrnvxomIrIIw

Highly recommend you to try growing them from seeds, it's a fun way to go!

Again, my thanks Linton, will try the seeds - though I am much better with seedling plants - seems to me.

Have not had any success with obtaining viable Lingonberry seeds. The seeds I bought before never germinated. More recently ordered some from a reputable overseas supplier but they were rejected by customs on arrival. It's hard to import anything now and meet the strict criteria that has been introduced. However I have just ordered some more seeds from a different local seller to give them another go. Hope they will work this time!

Hi Linton
Best wishes to your effort. Hope you find seed and grow. I bought seed and unfortunately none germinated.
I am keen to know your result.
Thanks

The Lingon seeds that I bought locally have not germinated either but they are being kept in the fridge in case they need longer cold stratification so I haven't given up entirely.

In the mean time I spoke to the aqis people regarding importing these seeds. While they are a permitted species, they told me that these seeds need to be pretreated with a sodium hypochlorite solution in a registered facility. The customs person went on to say that for hobby gardeners it would be best to form a buying group to make a group order so that the seed treatment costs could be shared.

Yours cordially.....L.

I imported a small sachet of seeds from the US in 2014 and sowed them in a pot without cold stratification. They took about 3 months to germinate. I planted them out in Katoomba and they grew well but have not produced any flowers so far. They are small plants, less than 10cm tall, so weeding around hem is important to avoid competition from grasses.

Thanks for your helpful details about growing these seeds. I think Lingon Berries are to die for so I really want to grow them. Based on your information I will plant them right away as they have already been in the fridge for a couple of months and hope they will germinate.

Your plant looks great and you are very, very, very lucky to be growing them so well. Please remember me if they produce some fruit and subsequent seeds. Cheers!

I agree with you - lingonberry jam is delicious. I have bought some jars of it from IKEA in the past, but I don't know if they still sell it.

Hi Edward3, just saw your post from last year. I have a seedling Lingonberry that has been in the ground for many years. It's getting quite bushy and suckering but has not yet flowered. Wondered if your plants had flowered yet and how they are progressing?

I took some of the plants from Katoomba and put them in a rectangular flower box which I keep in Sydney. This was because it was too difficult to avoid weeds in Katoomba. I kow they normally live in a colder climate but I like to experiment, and they are growing slowly but well enough in Sydney. I can now finally see a couple of white flowers.

Thanks for your reply. Yes I know what you mean about keeping them weeded, I have lifted most of my plant over the last 2 seasons and divided it. There is still no sign of flowering but the plants have a flush of growth on them and look much happier than they were in the ground. Please keep me posted on there progress fruit wise. I am in the foothills of the Snowy Mountains in Eastern Victoria so am a cool climate gardener. Would be happy to trade or purchase some divisions from your plants. If you're interested let me know, I have a collection of fruits, berries and medicinal herbs.
