Ingeneral cracking of fruit is due to uneven moisture in the soil- sudden changes.

yrt is robably pright about cracking with uneven soil moisture and also sudden soil wetness after a dry period.Weather fluctuations don't help and being in a winter rainfall zone with extremes of temperature probably makes it worse. The fruit is expanding too fast for the skin and maybe dry air and moist soil generally could cause it also.

Sometimes they just crack. One of those things about loquats that is a pain in the posterior. They will often crack even in a drought with absolutely no rain or watering. They also rot at times when rainfall is 10% of average, as is the case with my crop that turned to moosh a few weeks back. My loquat collection may be in for some revision soon...

Ooops, got my ngans and my quats mixed up. Splitting is usually associated with water fluctuations, but usually they have to be extreme to upset a longan. Those are quite bumpy longans - which variety are they?

Out of the three in my yard, Nagasaki is probably the least prone to splitting, then mizuho, then champagne. Usually with champagne you have to cut around the browned edges of the splits, as 99% of the harvest will be split. Tastes are the reverse of that order though.

It is crack when there was uneven watering in the early stages of fruit development. I think you need to maintain the capacity of water. Try to use device which is helps to measure water capacity.
