Loquat grafting (forum)

I have grown some quince from seed so I can graft a loquat onto them. I have friends with a particularly large and luscious loquat I want to graft.

Do any of you clever peole know what time of year might be best for this? I have looked online with not much luck.

Hi Julie, there's a thread on Cloudforest Cafe on grafting loquats. They suggest a time when the tree is growing strongly e.g. late spring, and apparently quince seedling is the go for a dwarfed early bearing tree. Sounds good.

I was told that quince has a dwarfing effect on the loquat tree. Not for me, the tree grew huge and the suckers have come up to 6m away from the trunk. But then nature works different here.
