Last year I had lots of nectarines on my two trees 100 plus each tree( fruit fly got most of them ) but this year i got lots of flowers but only 3 or 4 fruit have developed the rest have withered up. But there has been heaps and heaps of branch and leaf growth. The trees are 6 years old 6 foot tall by 6 foot wide very leafey and healthy. Lots of mulch watered every 2nd day by drip irrigation. Any ideas on why there is so little fruit this year?

Could it tend to alternate bearing? Too much nitrogen not enough potassium?
I invested in a whole-tree fruit fly net this year, which worked a treat, not one single bit of fruit fly or other insect damage. If you don't net the tree or bag fruit clusters, about all of them will be stung. You need to prune a bit to fit the net on, but only to a good size for picking.

no not alternate bearing each year I've had increasing numbers of fruit, I have a couple of other nectarine and peach trees near it with fruit this year that have been watered and mulched the same, It cant be that the winter wasn't cold enough as I have cherries on my cherry tree.
If it happens again next year, it's coming out.
