Hi all,
I need some advises on growing lotus. I've got a few germinated lotus seeds that I intend to grow it in a 40l flexi container which is about 40cm high. Is it big enough? How much soil vs water should i need? Do i need 10cm or 20cm or 30cm deep of soil and the rest are water, etc? How do i fertilize lotus? Any tips are welcomed. Thanks

I've grown mini lotus before in a pond. I simply potted the bulbs in 50/50 seed raising mix and coarse sand and sunk the pot. They grew quite easily to the surface above which would have been a depth of about 80 cm.

I have grown several varieties from seeds before and the dwarf flowering types are easier to manage than the ones grown for tubers (mostly chinese) or seeds (mostly thai).Change the water daily and submerge a pot with potting mix and gravel on top (hold the floating bits of potting mix down) with lotus planted. 40cm diameter vessel is ok for dwarf types but leaves will stand out 30cm from the water.Flowering from seeds can take 18 months but divide tubers rather than planting more seeds.
