Lychee growth (forum)

My shop bought (Woolsworth's variety) sprouted lychee seems to have grown quite well. Pict. 1 (2009) and Pict. 2 (presently, 2011). Main nutrients: water and sunlight plus some superphosphate.

tecko is your 2009 seedling producing flowers/seeds? It looks huge.

Woolworths lychees seems to be a mixture of different varieties; I push the tiniest of seeds into pots and got one good looking seedling this year. Fingers crossed.

Good luck to you, MaryT. No, my seedling is still very young(only about 2-3 years old), I don't expect it to flower so soon - maybe a few (5?) more years.

Transplanted my Lychee onto the ground about a month ago. Looks like flower buds are now forming. Incredibly, my home grown Lychee takes only about 4 years from sprouting to maturity (way beyond my expectation!)

Hi Tecko. thats great. good luck. I hope that your flowers produce fruit - some tropicals (e.g. mangoes) can flower a season or more before they then hold the fruit. I don't know if lychees do this.

if you drop me a line at my first name at anize dot org, I can put you in touch with some locals who'd know
