Hello,

Is it possible to grow lychee tree's in melbourne??? Also can you get them in dwarf variety???

hello, yes to lychees. protect them from frosts till there about four. Use a guard for that. Earily and large amounts of food, water (not so they get wet feet all the time) and some pot ash. A little seasal when planting helps to. I dont know if you can pot them but in a half wine barrel you would get away with it.

My Bosworth 3 lychee is 10 years old and is still chest high . Sure you can grow it but will it fruit and will they taste as they should. Much hairy- chested talk disguises these limitations

Growing Lychees in pots will dwarf them as John says and continuous pruning as bsilver says will also keep them small. If you have bats or rodents they will definitely want you lychees so keeping them smaller will allow you to net them more easily.

I am growing the Salathiel lychee tree (the one with the small seed) and also the Bosworth 3 Lychee Tree in a pot which should keep them small.

They do have a medium frost tolerance so if you are in Melbourne with frosts it would be good to nurture them while they are young.

I have a Bosworth 3 in a pot. It is doing very well. Its slow growing and very healthy...its still only in a small bonsai bag at this stage. I am going to keep it in the bonsai bags.
