My solitary male paw paw has produced some fruit at the end of elongated stems. Will these develop on to full sized/edible paw paws does anyone know?

Yes Phil they will develop into edible paw paws but will be seedless. They won't taste as good a from a female or bisex plant. It is a pretty routine thing to happen with males.
Oh yeah this is Mike.

That explains why you occasionally get ones from the store with no seeds - they came from male plants!

Seedless ones are hermies and females mostly that have not been pollinated well.Male paw paws are less common and not usually sold.
This is mike again.

Mike can you tell a male fruit from a female one from looking at it?

Mary you can see the difference in a second, including how hermaphrodites are different. Males have flowers on long stalks, females have one or just a few fat flowers in leaf culm bases and bisex have several small flowers in leaf stalk bases. With young ones you have to wait until flowers develop properly to know.

All males ive observed have been long and thin with a bell end. Not round or torpedo shaped. there is a big old one next door that seems to have stopped producing fruit or flowers. males tend to have a more 'wild' taste. some hermies can be seedless, and some have a single, very large (20x regular papaya sized) ivory seed that looks and feels like plastic.
