Guanabana ponounced "gwa-NA-ba-na"
Accent on second syllable.
just think of that song that used to be on the muppets or sesame street?
" ma-NA-ma-na doot doo doot doodoo...etc"
:-}
You could make a song bout your garden..
Guanabana... and sweet potato
Guanabana....Cassava too!
Guanabana... (make up your own lyrics)
Off topic but what the hell.
Cubanito, welcome.
Sapodilla is English common name (borrowed from Spanish= "little sapote"), but most people here pronounce it "Sapodila".
I've heard some folks who've visited Ecuador call it Nispero.
I think Nispero was originally the Spanish name for Medlar (Mespilus germanica) applied to the
new world fruit of same name because of a few simmilarities between the two otherwise unrelated fruits.

Aussies are my kind of people. Doesn't hurt that most of Australia has a subtropical climate. Californians are just beginning to see what wonderful tropical fruits we can grow in this great weather. Oh yeah, I forgot to list my Atemoya (African pride), White Sapote(suebelle), Elberta Peach, Sugar Apple,grafted on a cherimoya rootstock, dragon fruit, Mamey Sapote (magana) and a small vegetable garden.

Hi Pete,
Yes, those are exuberant prices. There are a whole lotta nurseries in Southern California way cheaper than SoCal nursery. Cherimoya are somewhat popular down here and you could get a cherimoya tree for half the price, or cheaper, than what they are selling them. The pink fleshed cherimoya is unique. I believe the variety is call Selma and from what I heard they don't sell them commercially. You have to find someone who would share some bud wood. I have a sort of unique Red Ilama that I bought in a nursery in San Diego and its suppose to have pink flesh.....I'll have to wait a couple of years because it took a pretty good beating this winter even though it's grafted on a cherimoya rootstock.
