My Pear Tree is being attacked! (forum)

Help anybody? I have discovered these bugs on my pear tree and they are feeding on the leaves so bad that my pear tree looks horrendous! Please see picture. Can anyone identify them and give advice? Some of the fruits are showing signs of weakness already!

Hi Audrey, looks like pear and cherry slug to me. There are all sorts of toxic ways to deal with them, none of which i would use. If you think about what would work on a slug you met on the ground you can work out non toxic ways to reduce or eliminate them. e.g. throwing some lime or chalk over them will dry them out, someone told me they used cornflour and it worked for them. Best of luck they are horrid little beasties.

By the way Audrey, when you have dealt with the slugs, you could help the tree along with some seasol sprayed on the leaves and watered into the root zone. This helps stressed plants.

Hi, i may be able to deal with them on the lower levels but how do i prevent them from getting higher? The pear tree is quite tall. Will try cornflour and seasol you have suggested. Goodness how did they find their way to my trees...I never saw them before. :(
