Naranjilla's in Melbourne Winter (forum)

I planted about 3 dozen Naranjilla's in my Melbourne garden ready to accept that Winter could bring failure.
The conventional block yielded different results depending on where they went in with the front yard getting the most sun, wind, everything. Up until an extreme week of frosts they were amazing.
About 1.5 Mtr tall, lots of fruit forming, massive leaves then into the skip.
Elsewhere they have all survived but less exposure less growth, no fruit, still look similar to how they came.
Enough detail, was I unlucky with that week or without a glasshouse is it just asking too much to grow these in a productive area in Melbourne ?
