My nectarine tree has this slimy sap like excretion forming at the top of where new growth should be coming. Is this normal or a disease?

Not sure if it's a bad sign, my does it every year this time around in huge chunks/blobs it's sweet tasting & apparently edible.
It doesn't seem to have affected my tree, although it's a seedling which drops all its fruits in late spring, but a huge tree 10+ years old.
