I visited Sydney last week and saw a peculiar looking fruit tree in the Darling Harbor park.
The fruit was eaten by the bird in the park and the fruits look and smell like wax jambu. does anyone here know what these trees are?
Thanks

Wax Jambu is a Syzygium, and your photo is a lillypilly, S.paniculatum, an Australian
Syzygium. Should be common in Melbourne, just look for the edible purple fruits.
S.australe is also similar, and the Riberry, S.luehhmanii, has very nice fruit like tiny malay apple.

Lillipilly usually refers to Acmenia smithii, a different plant. The Syzygiums are commonly called 'bush cherry"

Always heard all Syzygiums referred to as Lilly Pilly. I have never heard them called bush cherry.

We only call one of them Lilly Pilly around here, the others have different names for sure.

Hi Amanda,
I love it. A ripe fruit smells like rose seriously and taste sweeter but drier than wax jambu. Bats love them too.

Fruit are big, golf ball size or plus, but fairly hollow with a marble sized seed in the cavity. Fruit is pleasent, rosewater scented, ie turkish delight type perfume.
