Need help to find a lovely country town nearish to S (forum)

Hello - sorry this is not really about fruit trees - but I thought the Daley's forum people may be able to help!!
I lived in Maleny and loved it (I did get numbers of plants from Daley's - all of which arrived well and grew beautifully).
I had to leave and now am trying to find a similar town in NSW within say 2 hours of Sydney. I don't know NSW at all. I've found a few towns which are quite nice (Picton, Kurrajong, Mittagong, Bowral) - but all are beyond my means. Other small towns I've managed to find, don't seem to have a community - are more just like suburbs.
So can anyone help me? What small towns that are reasonably priced, have a town community feel, and are within 2 hours to 2.5 hours from Sydney?

You should try far Nth NSW Kathy, still kind of undiscovered by the general populace and some great little villages, all within 40 mins to the Gold Coast and 1.5 hours to Brisbane. Great climate for growing anything from Daleys, subtropical all year 'round.
