Newcastle warm temperate or subtropical? (forum)

SeaMountains starts with ...
Is Newcastle area warm temperate or subtropical? I saw conflicting information. And many trees listed as tropical /subtropical can be found in many gardens (i.e. mango)

Many places are on the cusp of those two categories, even inland locations. The limiting factor for subtropical fruit trees is probably any very cold nights and more so hard frost. Many species tolerate light frost. Urban areas can be in a microclimate/ heat island effect, which is protective.
It could also vary yearly, with occasional cold snaps.
Most places are more likely to move toward subtropical with climate change. We are inland, but have not had heavy frost for several years.
As you say, the list of subtropical species found locally is probably the answer.

Thank you! I probably have to visit nurseries. I bet it is very similar to coastal Sydney 200 km North doesn't make all that much of a difference. This winter seems tobe terribly cold.

Many subtropical trees will be more tolerant as they get bigger and survive the first few years.

I'd say generally temperate except 'in a warm spot'. I grow Paw paw /papaya on the north side of my house in Sydney. I'm definitely NOT sub tropical but I can get away with those due to the brick wall and the roof overhang.....
