Does anyone with experience know if I lop a papaya tree off half way down (ie there will be no leaves) will it grow back. I saw one example of this on the internet but thought i would get confirmation from others first.
thanks

It should do Jim providing that it is
1. warm enough to regrow quickly and
2. you can protect the stem, which is hollow, from rotting in wet weather (some put a tin or other water-tight container over the stump).
Might be best to wait a month until some warmth comes on. Also, maybe think about getting some seedling replacements going in a warm spot in pots as extras/insurance. I've chopped tall pawa paws before but found new plants to be more vigorous, especially as they grow so fast.
Good luck!!
Good luck with it.

To add to this topic. Will the seeds from my bisexual papaya produce bisexual offspring? My trees are well isolated with no male trees nearby
