Hi
i am in melbourne. i planted a new persimmon tree a few months ago. initially it took off well growing new leaves with good colour.

now it has taken a turn for the worse. there are black spots on the leaves. the leaves have a burnt look on the edge. several leaves had holes in them. Now the leaves are drooping and falling off. the top branch shoots are wilting and it looks to be dieing on me.

i would really love to be able to save him but i dont know what is wrong.

when i planted him out i put in plenty of compost and raised the bed. i mulched all around and staked it.

the soil is moist and a pH test appears to be neutral

if anyone can offer me some advice it would be greatly appreciated. i really want to save it but i fear i have lost it

many thanks

It's definitely her, not him.
Remove some leaves now, to relieve from lack of water. And buy a sun shade to help her.
Water it every morning.

My persimmon suffered from afternoon sun--dropping leaves and fruits & wilting shoots, I used a sun shade to keep it away from direct torching afternoon sunlight, and water it every night, it bounced back as I checked last night, and this morning, it looks like a boy at 18, full of energy. Of course, it's still her, I guess I won't remove the sun shade until this winter.

Young persimmon needs sun protection and keep soil moist but on the dry side. You need to dig up around the base to check as it seem holding too much water in your case. No chemical fertiliser and cover it with shade cloth 30% for the fist couple of years in Melbourne summer. Cheers

thank you very much Marmot and David for your help. it is greatly appreciated thank you.

i had not realised it would need sun protection. thinking that planting in full sun would mean it needs full sun all the time. and being in Melbourne, the sun has not been very warn so far this year.

i have put some shade cloth over it to cover now.

i trimmed some of the wilted branches at the top as some had lost some life

i also digged out a little under the base. it is moist, it did not seem waterlogged

i will do my best to look after her and hopefully she will grow nice and strong. thanks for correcting me on the gender:)

again, much appreciated, thank you
