No, the tropical stuff flowers too early. Granny smith is the best.
www.plantnet.com.au sell dwarf grannies.

Jimmy - Hardidge is on the Gold Coast - isn't that semi-tropical? What's the origin of Golden Dorsett?
Fuji and Pink lady work together too - I love my Fuji - it's done well here (semi arid - semi tropical) In fact I am thinking of grafting a cupla Pink lady branches onto the Fuji and getting rid of the Pink Lady ... she's got to get her act together this year or it's the chop 4 her!! :)

have a look at www.kuffelcreek.com for warm climate apple growing info.
I bought the book ! It says both are low chill -ish.
I'm old school, so yes too warm, but I grow trees by pulling leaves off in Perth and as you can see from my photos the fruit is good !
Have a look at my edibles page.

Thanks Jimmy - when do u pull the leaves off?
Does this give trick the tree into thinking it's dormant?

Ther are two schools of thought, the first is to pull off in autumn to allow the buds to get the max chill.
the other is to pull off in spring (like now) and then the tree will bud up and bloom within 3 weeks.
I have tried both and there seems to be no diff yet,

Is it odd for my apple trees to be flowering again now? They are already carrying fruit the size of an apricot. I'm not bothered by it - I just thought it was a bit strange at this time of the year? Don't they flower all at once?
