Hi, I have recently come across this fruit in the northern part of Malaysia (Kelantan) and eaten this fruit. It goes by a nickname of "Khang Kok" which means
"Frog". Its texture is spongy and the taste is sour, tart and a little sweet. It has a single large flat seed in the centre. I am curious to know its actual name. Thanking everyone in advance.

Spot on Mike! I agree with you. Robert at the Rusty market gave me some about 2 years ago, a bit sour I must say that fruit is not my cup of tea.

Thanks so much Mike and Jujube. You have solved this mystery for me. My mum, aunts and uncles used to be very poor growing up and they would eat these as "fruit". I have listened to them tell stories about how they would eat this fruit for almost 35 years but have never seen the fruit until just a few days ago. It is just so nice to know what it really is. I must say though the taste is very interesting. Not unpleasant but you are right Jujube, its not something you would eat all the time. :)
