Plum tree identification. (forum)

Hello All, I bought my current house 3 years ago and this tree has been in the corner growing away happily. It flowers every year but doesn't fruit and since researching I think I need to plant another variety to help pollination.
Can somebody please let me know what type of plum tree it is and recommend a friend for me to plant so I can get some fruit. I'm located just north of Brisbane re humidity etc.
Thanks in advance.
Geoff

That's a weird looking trunk - looks like a graft gone wrong. I had a mandarin that looked a bit like that, and it never did grow normally.
It's possible it is a flowering plum, just bred for flowers and not fruit. They used to be very popular, but seem to have gone out of fashion now.

I'm at a bit of a disadvantage just now and can't examine the pictures in more detail, but from the thumbnails it looks like it might be Prunus lusitanica, which is called (I think) portugese laurel and some other flowering type names. It has a small hard fruit which I have heard (but not tested) is poisonous. Doesn't seem to grow into more than a big bush with closely packed leaves and flowers. From memory, small, dark, reddish leaves.

I forgot to add that this tree was planted next to a type of apricot tree that beared lots of fruit. It was blown over in a storm and has since been chopped out. I think this plum tree (?) was originally planted by the previous owner hoping to get fruit but I've never seen any in the last 3 years. Flowers every year with lots of bees working it but never fruits.
Cheers Geoff

OK- I see it now, definitely not P. lusitanica. Could be a plum or possibly an almond.

Well its definetly a grafted tree, not a seedling or sucker. How ornamental are the flowers ? They seem quite large in the pics. Also leaves seem longish for plum.(looks like almond or peach type leaf)
Trunk bark is also a bit unusual. Looks a bit like a plumquot (hybrid). We had one here, it had spectacular flowers, but never fruited much.

Hello All, thanks very much for your replies and I thought I might add some clearer photos that might help. There is one of the bark up higher that appears not marked. Also some more of the flowers, they are all white with no hint of pink and about the size of a 10c piece or slightly smaller. The largest leaves so far are roughly 5cm long and have the serated edges up close. I can't remember exactly how long they get when in full leaf. I don't have a clue what it is and my neighbour guessed it as a plum. I do like the idea of maybe an almond but would just love to know what it is to then plant a pollinator to help get some fruit. Cheers Geoff

G'day again, has anyone got any ideas regarding identifying my tree? I'm still keen to plant something to assist it fruiting but have work out what it is first. Cheers Geoff
