May Apples popping up now!
After remaining dormant underneath the soil all Winter the first Mayapples (pictured) have just emerged.
Mayapples (Podophyllum peltatum) produce fruits that are said to taste somewhat like Passionfruit when fully ripe. I am growing them in a secured area so the dog can't eat the leaves which are toxic to animals. Hoping to get a crop this Summer.

Found these pictures of Mayapple fruits on the net. Supposed to taste like a delicious cross between passionfruit and pineapple when fully ripe which is when they must be eaten and not before.
Apparently the plants will start to die off and go dormant by end of Summer which is when the fruits will be completely ripe.
Looking forward to a Summer of Surprises!
