Poinciana (forum)

This tree is about 5 years old and has these tiny flowers on it.
They don't look like the usual red flowers that should be on this tree.
Could someone explain this?

Maybe because it is not a poinciana? They are usually red, with completely different leaves, though there is a yellow one.

But this doesn't look like yours either.

hi Fitzmooney,
do some Google research on Yellow Poinciana - ie. Peltophorum Pterocarpum. that may be what you've got, rather than the standard red that we usually associate with Poinciana.
I'm unable to see the flower detail clearly enough due to double vision, but I'm sure you'll be able to make a comparison and decide if that's what you've got.

Not a yellow one, as the flowers are only about 5mm across.
Definately a Delonix, as I collected the seeds in Cow Bay NQ.
Last year no fruit appeared. Will wait and see as the bees are very busy on them.

The leaves on your tree are quite different to the pics of Poinciana. Can you post more pics once it flowers, as I am now curious to know what you have!

Mystery solved and I am a little disappointed.
It is a Honey Locust. Nice tree but no red flowers. Similar looking seed pods.

Red flowering ones are rarer and the flowers taste the same.
