Protecting Mango buds (forum)

Hi, I'm in Sydney near the Royal National Park and we have possums, fruit bats and birds. Last year all of my mango buds were eaten - this year I have covered them flyscreen mesh and some with organza bags. I'm now wondering whether I have done this too early? Do bees need access to pollenate? Thank you for any advice.

I think possums are the villain, not birds or bats. This is a real problem. My solution is to ensure that possums can't get onto the tree from adjoining trees or bushes by providing sufficient clearance from other trees as well as house, shed, overhead cables, etc. And to prevent possums from climbing up the trunk, wrap the trunk with sheet metal to height of 1 m. Best of luck.
