Prune Dwarf Black Mulberry (forum)

Old Ged starts with ...
We have a dwarf black mulberry that is several years old and has 20+ branches some 5-6 metres long. Every year, it produces many mulberries over two crops a year, each providing 5-10 kgs. Will the tree continue to produce fruit on "old" wood? or is there a need to prune it back to start the branch process off again? We usually fertilise it twice a year with dynamic lifter.

Waterfall says...
You can prune these as hard as you like, we usually prune ours after fruit and it will respond by fruiting again. You should be able to produce fruit for 6 months per year with constant pruning.

Hi Waterfall, thanks for the reply. I was just in the garden and I can see that the Mulberry tree thinks it is Spring. Every branch has exploded into life with fruit and leaves starting. So, I guess that answers my question about 2 year+ old wood fruiting. To get to the fruit, I will have to pull the 3-5 metre long branches down to get to the fruit. I also noticed last year that there were certain birds that took the first crop totally, then the next crop was not touched, as those birds never returned. We still have 5kgs in the freezer from last year for jam, so better get jam making to make freezer room.
