I have entered these comments on the body but haven't come through , sorry new user....
I have 2 dwarf mandarin trees, over the last 12 months they have grown quite fast/tall. I would like to cut them lower say about fence height or lower to allow for new growth.
Can you please tell me if its ok and when can I do it? the photos were just taken.

Cut in winter ok. Dwarf should be around 2 meter height. Bear in mind severe pruning will set you back a year. I.e. Next spring, very little to no fruit.
I would keep 3 to 4 main branches and just light trim to shape.

Thank you Brain,
I have posted a photo, hopefully it will upload this time. The tree is about 3 mtrs tall. has grown straight up ,not many outward branches - guess too close to other trees )small yard) about 15 fruit at present, If I cut just prune about 1200cm from the top only will it still minimize fruit next seasin?
thank you

Are you sure its a Dwarf citrus as their rootstock makes them grow slower too - as for what I would do - cut height down to current side branch height (also maintain height to half what you cut off)- then i would trim back side branches by a third and do same with new growth- also thin inside crossed or unnecessary branches for good airflow to reduce scale or bug issues - do you get gall wasp in your region?

thanks Markmelb,
the tag reads dwarf and I purchased them as dwarf but I fed them well.
If I do what you suggest, will I still minimise fruit next season ?
I guess the current crop will ripen in the next 5-6 weeks.
Do I prune as soon as I pick all the current crop or can I do it now where there is no fruit?
there is no crop in the top half - its all new growth this season.

Ive done bigger prunes and it did reduce crop but I still got some fruit - what i suggested wont knock it that much as is still young - if you did on an older established tree is a different story - try planting a pommello - your area will do well - try a carters Red or Flicks Yellow or nam roi if you can get one :)

Thanks Markmelb, this gives me confidence to go ahead with it.
Should I wait until the fruit is picked?
