Seasol/Powerfeed vs Charlie Carp? (forum)

Hi All,
Our veggie growing season up here is starting now. I have used all three of these liquid fertilizers, and was just wondering if anyone prefers one over the other, and why?

Myself, I prefer Charlie Carp, because I 'think' it contains more trace elements?

Maybe alternating them weekly would be better? I'm growing only tomatoes, garlic, cucumbers, lettuce, beans & carrots. (I think).

Brendan, I did a little research project some years ago in an organic market garden. We grew various green veg using
1) compost
2) Seasol
3) fish emulsion
4) Seasol and fish emulsion combined.

The best results were from compost, and the second best were the Seasol plus fish emulsion. Hope this helps.

A few points I would make:
Charlie carp, the one you are referring to is a chemical fertiliser. no way pure fish emulsion has 10% nitrogen without urea added. the organic CCarp has nothing added.
Unless you have a defiency trace elements should be applied sparingly, not frequently.
seaweed extracts are a plant tonic not a fertiliser though it seems many use it as if it were
not surprised compost was a winner as it improves soil fertility. chemical fertilisers do not

Amanda's edit button is an exception, as she has a user ID #.? I'm still on 'dial-up', and so far, still have my Edit button.

amanda, I have broadband. Sorry to hear about your modem. I was careful to unplug everything last week when the storm started, as I know two people whose computers were fried by lightning.

way to dig up an old thread. I now started drowning weeds that have bulbs and letting them rot. add a bit of manure for extra kick. stinks and attracts flies so needs to be covered when put into the garden or added to compost

Tino did an interesting test of these and also worm juice with lettuce seedlings

Outcome- a mixture of fish emulsion and seaweed is best for most plants he thinks:

Tino says "If we were to base the results of this experiment purely around plant size, then the fish emulsion is by far the best. It's a high nitrogen fertiliser and that's what plants use for leaf growth, but beware - it's horses for courses. High-nitrogen fertilisers are great on lettuce crops or kale, but if I were to use it on say a carrot crop, I'd get a good amount of leaf growth, but a distorted little mangled tiny carrot which you don't want."

"I've been really impressed with the seaweed extract too. The plants are nice and healthy, so next time, I think I'll combine the two and I'll get the vigorous growth out of the fish emulsion with the health benefits of the seaweed extract," he says.
