Some scaly thing on my pomegranate tree (forum)

Saw some scaly white thing on various parts of my small pomegranate tree. It looks like some shell and easily crushed to reveal brown powdery stuff inside. Can anyone tell me what 'alien' it is? Are they harmful to the tree?

Hey, Looks like some type of white scale. Although probably won't kill your tree they reduce its vigour and can easily removed by hand
