My orange tree has been in the ground less than three months. Initially it took well but lately the new growth seems to be stopping and the bark beginning to split.I live in Broken Hill so it gets watered plenty and receives regular doses of Seasol and Powerfeed. The soil PH is 7.5 to 8.

Likely to be collar rot. Occurs if there is no free air circulation around trunk or trauma eg mowers Treatment is cut out affected area. Apply Bordeaux paste. Probably will not work

Just wondering about that green tie tag right next to the wound. Any chance its moving around in the wind and causing damage ? ie The flat edge ?
How bmany other wounds are there ?
That seems quite high up, looks like a physical injury, at least at first.
ps you dont need to mulch Citrus right up to the trunk in most cases, esp in fungal prone areas.

Not sure it is collar rot there is plenty of air circulation and no mower trauma. There is one other wound besides the one pictured
