My strawberry guava looks healthy has loads of flowers twice a year and has never set any fruit. I use blood and bone, sheep manure, trace elements and potash on it and mulch with pea hay in the summer. It also gets some liquid seaweed or liquid fertiliser occasionally.Help!

Hi Liz - how old is it? the reds need a 2 or 3 yrs b4 they really get going? The yellow is quicker tho'. Don't spoil it too much - they are very hardy - and too much nitrogen may be a problem.

It would be about 4-5 years old but the first 2 were a bit slow. It didn't like where it was, a bit spindly and reaching for more sun, so I moved it. Much happier now and loads of new growth. I'll try being meaner with the blood and bone. Thanks.

One of my Strawberry guavas which is about 2 years old has flowered twice but no fruit, while my three 1 year old ones are starting to flower now, so I'm wondering if I will see any fruit from any of them this year.

I was at a plant fair here in melbourne and a stall had a Strawberry guava plant that was 2 years old and had heaps of fruit on it. I spoke to the stall owner and he said he just gave the plant ample chicken shit and that was it.

Hi J - U may get a few fruit - but plants are not all going to do the same thing - it's not a precise science.

It's not always a great thing to let young plants carry heaps of fruit - it can set them back as far as developing a good strong frame work - for the bounty that is yet to come when they are a bit older. Personal choice though.

Generally when they are 3 yrs old they produce bucket loads of fruit. I have 15 S.gauva plants at different stages. The yellows will fruit earlier and heavier than the reds.
