sweetsop leaf conditions (forum)

Andrew starts with ...
About 2 months ago i had a condition i could not find anything out about in regards to fungus's or certain bacteria that affect the Sweetsop -it seemed to cause the leaves to start off with several small brown/black spots, almost like a rose black spot, which spread very rapidly, causing leaf yellowing and eventual fall from tree.I watched very closely and noticed it was spreading fairly quickly, even the new growth was starting to be affected once it was getting established.I tried one treatment, in particular copper oxychloride. It had a very adverse effect and can only assume they are very copper sensitive and would not recommend it to anyone!!The leaves become mottled, wrinkled and looked very very sick-After about 6 weeks i decided to clean the leaves and use kocide blu which seemed to fix the condition and haven't had any problems since.it took a few weeks to see any signs of improvement.Has anyone else had anything similar or other problems effecting their sweetsop??

Hello Andrew
I to have been waiting for a reply to your post, here's a couple of pics I have just taken of my tree which shows a similar problem.
I am 99.9% sure that you and I do not have a disease, we have a soil problem. Our soil lacks ??? My soil is very fine sand/loam, what's your soil like. So I reckon we should try some dolomite plus some epsom salts and then perhaps some Terrafoska Blue TE fertilizer [which seems to be the in fertilizer at the moment] Some fresh lawn mulch with a sprinkle of lime over it is good also.
Maybe not the fertilizer at the moment because the trees are going dormant for winter. Some of my problem also is strong wind burning the leaves
Cheers
Wayne

I'd apply a lot of Gypsum, on top & under the mulch, don't dig it in. It will take a while but should work.

Gday wayne,
I certainly cant be sure what is causing our conditions but i too am thinking its a fertilizer problem or lacking something-after applying blood and bone at the start of this month, the condition seems to have resurfaced-its getting cooler here so im not too sure what cold weather burn looks like.Just gotta rule out one thing at a time-We had chronic winds a few weeks ago and the sweetsop copped a hammering, snapped the main branches and not too sure wether or not to keep it going, do you think alot of damage is worth trying to contend with??I will certainly give what you say a try and see what happens.laso my rollinia and cherimoya exhibit the same symptoms, maybe try a liquid fertilizer and see what happens also??failing that a leaf analysis may be a good way to go.If you can wayne, keep me posted and we will see if we can work this out.
Cheers Andrew

sounds great Wayne, i hope we can sort this thing out.Another thing i just remembered is that before the conditions worsened i applied a foliar, root spray which by memory was a yates fruit and flower product, could just be coincidence but certainly will be very careful next time if it is-Do you know if they have chemically sensitive leaves, i guess could be maybe the fact the nights were colling down when i applied it on??What other fruit trees do you have at home-all mine are in pots which are easily moved about though i am learning what works and what doesn't.Thanks for your advice mate
