Hey guys,

Spent the whole day today wandering through the Sydney botanical gardens. It was really intersting to see some really big mature fruit trees that daleys sells here and that i have planted in the back yard.

It was good to see rollinias and canistels with fruit on them. I was also surpised to see a healthy star apple tree growing in sydney. I had know idea they would grow around here. I also had know idea aniseed myrtle and brazilian cherrys grew 8 meters tall!!! Also came across what looks like some type of artocarpus which is next to the rollinia - maybe a kwau muk??? anyone know?

Ive attached a few photos for you guys if you are interested.

Pic 1: Unknown artocarpus
Pic 2: Giant Fig
Pic 3 Yellow mangosteen - delicous fruits
Pic 4: Young canistel
Pic 5: Aniseed Myrtle
Pic 6: The large tree in the photo is a brazillian cherry!

have a great weekend!

Hi Happyearth,

Thanks for posting the note and pictures. It is nice to know that some of those tropical fruit trees can be grown in Sydney.

You have a good weekend too.

I saw this post a few months back, and have since visited the Sydney Royal Botanic Gardens fruit hunting twice.

The 'Unknown Artocarpus' is Artocarpus Parvus (aka A. nitidus subsp. lingnanensis), and is a giant tree, which has lots of baby fruits. When they ripen I will try to get a fallen fruit.

The Yellow Mangosteen has been cut down, however there are seedlings around where it was. I will take one on my next visit.

The canistel tree has grown up quite a bit, and produces lots of fruits. I was ~3 weeks early, and missed the ripe ones. I will be on time next season!
Near the canistel is a younger Lucuma, that is producing it's first crop right now.

Also around the botanic gardens are: Star Apples, White Sapote, Emperor's Fruit, several other Eugenias, Fruiting Cactuses, Coffee, Cherry Guavas, Mulberry, Native Raspberries, a young Jaboticaba, among a good few others.
There is a handy 'plant finder' app for the gardens. Link: https://rbgsydney.gardenexplorer.org/default.aspx
