Bunnies in Bunbury have "Thai eggplants' but are they the true Thai eggplants noted for their tiny fruit that are used whole in stir fries, curries, etc?? The photo on the label shows a striped purplish fruit, but no mention of their size!
Yeah I bought one anyway!

They use thin, long purple egg plants in Thailand too. I think I have seen seeds for the type you are talking about on eBay. I think called pea egg plants or similar. I haven't seen any actual plants of them for sale though.
Good luck.

Mike says...
I have a few thai eggplant varieties and while pea types and long purples, yellows, greens and whites are commonly grown in thailand, the name thai eggplant usually refers to a different group. They are the crispy ones that are spherical or eggshaped and often have darker green striping. Some have a purple flush, are yellow when still small but pale greens are most common. The red ones are soft and not usually called thai eggplant.
They are used in stirfries, soups, curries etc and I find them more useful than the big 'western sloppies'.The plants can live years as well not dying back after one season.

Mike I think Pauline has hit the nail on the head, PEA eggplants is what I am after, but sadly this one from Bunnies isnt one. Someone gave me some seed but none germinated, maybe too early so will try again! Mary T, thanks to you I have 3 baby ROCOTOS growing!

My rocotos passed away when the weather got warm but some I passed on to my brother are thriving.
One pea eggplant is a big thorny weed that grows all over the place here and I forgot its name. The fruit are collected with enthusiasm.Another I used to have is a small plant and they go red like tiny cherry tomatoes if left too long. The 'peas' are unlikely to be sold in nurseries.

You only need one Rocoto as it's a crazy producer. You wouldn't know what to do with three, SG. Mine is full of flowers and fruit at the moment. It's a bit straggly in its habit and doesn't mind living in the shade of other trees and lean all over their lower branches.

Mary, three of my Rocoto germinated, one was lost, and I now have two small healthy seedlings.

But they are so slow! The common chillies are about three times the size. Are they perennial? Most perennial plants are slower growing than annuals.

Yes, Julie; they're perennial but I have bird's eyes that are five years old and producing so it's no big deal. I just chop them down by half after fruiting then they just keep going.

Mind blowing site Phyl, thanks! To think that eggplants, tomatoes, capsicums & chillis were all South American originally & now spread across the world in many forms!
I am trying these seeds again, they are from a Thai Aussie who went for a holiday!

Well howdy Lucy there is some fruit starting up now.
Brian Watson dropped off many kg of free frozen durian flesh last weekend from his D99 AND 101'S as well as his luangs and gumpuns. Those prices are steep.
These 4 lychee types were $4-99kg today.I wonder how many people can pick the varieties.

MaryT, I looked up the Ligurian bees - interesting history. I buy local organic honey, but I may have to try your suggestion at least once. BTW, lovely looking plant - you're definitely Queen of the pots!
