I am considering to grow tropic snow peach. As I understand it is a low chill type, just wondering melbourne is high chill area... Is it ok to grow tropic snow or am it better off to choose a high chill peach var? I have never eaten tropic snow before, is it good? Or Could please you recommend some good white peach variety that you like. Thanks

Yes, go ahead . The way it works is that once it has reached its chilling hours it will flower; you will have a very early peach in Melbourne.

Tropic snow is great - I have had it in two quite different climates (one semi-arid and hot and this one warm temperate) and it goes gangbusters....
My tree was loaded this year - and it's only been in 1.5yrs and I lopped the top at 4m already...
The only thing I am not sure about yet - is that because the fruit is so early - it's when the weather is still cool (we had a very cool spring this year in WA - I am 150kms south of Perth) and the first fruits were not very sweet...which I know they should be...

The subsequent ripenings were better - but my next peach choice might be for a variety that is not quite so early....as the sun and warmth is needed for the sugar development in the fruit..?

So I guess if your springs are cold/cool - then this may be something to find out more about....?
Hard to say - as my tree also gets a bit of shade here - and has to be fruit fly netted as well - which cuts out 20% light...

Sorry not more help as such...but it is a lovely sweet and juicy fruit - and a promiscuous and prolific tree anyway! :-)

Agree about T.Snow . One problem is Brown Rot which can be prevented mostly by potassium bicarbonate spray early. Next time I will give wood ash a gow as it also has substantial potassium bicarbonate.

It still needs maybe 150 hrs of chilling.Cairns had one chill hour in 1984 and I don't think many tropical areas are suitable.
