I grew up with them at my nanas house in Brisbane too
don't no about different sorts..
I actually thought they are the same
spikey leafs etc
sorry I cant be more help
but they definitely go well there
unfortunately this massive tree was lost to yasi

Most should be ok in Townsville.There are big trees around Cairns and they would not thrive and be productive much further north on the coast.Most here are hybrids or very spikey ones.
