Washington navel orange (forum)

Jo36 starts with ...
Hi everyone, just wondering whether anyone could answer my question. I have a Washington navel 2m high 7 yrs old which had approx 35 fruit due to ripen June this year. Last two weeks it has been dropping fruit, fruit slowly turn yellow the drop there had been about ten drop so far. We have had some rain lately could this be the cause or would fruit fly have caused it? I can’t see any fruit stings from the fly. Anyone have any idea why it’d be dropping fruit it hasn’t dropped before harvest like this before.

Thanks for your reply David. I hope these photos are enough to give you an idea. I found a few things that look like eggs on the underside of leaves maybe it’s related? See photos attached. Thanks!

Hi Jo36,

It looks like the plant needs more water and nutrients. You can test it by yourself.

1. Dig the soil around the plant deep 20 to 30cm to see whether it is moist or dry.
2. Cut the orange in half to see whether it juicy or dry

My suggestion as below:

1. Clear/remove all grass/lawn 1m away from the plant
2. Apply citrus fertilizer 3 handfull + 6-7 kg dynamic lifter around the drip line
3. Water deeply (50l) for first time and 3 times a week, each time around 25l. Cheers
