what is this plant (forum)

shirl starts with ...
Hi Have recently moved and found this plant in the garden. Approx 12ft tall with bamboo type trunk. Throws up a lot os suckers. Very large leaves which are not very pleasant to smell.

Wait till those flowers come on and I think you'll have a better chance of I.D.. They look as though they'll be distinctive.
I've no idea what it is but thought of the castor oil plant when I initially saw it!??

Quite an old fashioned plant that used to be popular once, I still see it in peoples gardens around my area. Cheers.
