Hi all,
I'd like to try my hand at grafting. I'm looking for a White jacaranda to get some grating (scion) material.
I'm in the Northern half of Sydney.
Thanks in advance.

Hi Linda
White jacaranda is still a rare specimen in Australia. I have seen a few for sale only once last year at Daley's pre-purchase catalogue and it lasted only for a few days. I was so tempted to get one but, i mainly acquire fruit trees so I stuck to my specialty. Most of those guys who luckily snapped those rare trees are surely aren't willing to partake any scion to you yet because of the trees' juvenile age. Anyhow, keep browsing Daley's pre-purchase catalogue to secure one for yourself. We have lots of jacarandas here in our suburb but i have yet to see a white one. Anyway, i will keep an eye on it and i will let you know if I am able to locate one.
One tip, try joining an ornamental tree gardening club. They might be able to help you more than the guys specializing in exotic fruit trees.
Happy gardening :-)

Down here, White Jacarandas are commonly available in mainstream garden centres like Bunnings around Christmas. They are sold under the name 'White Christmas' as that is the time when they are in flower.
It's a pity you didn't make this enquiry 2 months ago when I pruned off all the lower branches on my large White Christmas as it was getting too bushy. There's not much left to take scions from at this time but it does grow new branches fairly fast. Cheers!

Hi Linton ,
&*^%$ - I've been meaning to post for ages!! Perhaps next spring, may I be able to get some wood off you?? Perhaps if I paid you for an express post bag?
Just a thought, I'll save this page....
Funny the 2 completely different replies to my post :)

Yes...should be able to send you some scions in Spring, no problem. It should be a good time then to do the grafting while the tree is vigorous. Please leave a message on my page when you are ready for it to be sent. Cheers!

Hi Linton,
As Spring has officially sprung , I'd thought I'd message you about getting some cuttings off a white jacaranda so I can try my hand at grafting. I have a few small (self seeded) seedlings around and they are starting to 'wake up' !
If it's possible I'd pay for an express post bag for you to post them to me.
Cheers,
Linda
